If you’re wondering which beauty products to invest in and which to save on, follow our guide.
There’s no need to spend exorbitant amounts of cash on beauty brands when you can find something more affordable that does the trick. But sometimes it’s worth your dosh to splash out on pricier product – sometimes it’s crucial. But how do you know where to indulge and where to scrimp?
Splurge or save: serums
Serums are worth spending on. “They’re personal trainers for your skin,” says Will Fennell, owner of Will and Peta beauty salon. Spend a little more on a serum and you can afford to use a less expensive moisturiser. Don’t massage serums into skin as the ingredients may be encapsulated in time-release delivery systems.
Splurge or save: cleanser
One school of thought, says Fennell, is to save on cleansers. “Cleanser doesn’t stay on your skin long enough to have any great effect. Spend on something that stays on the skin, like serums.” The second line of thinking is that cleansing is the most important skincare step, so you should invest in a quality cleanser. “Cleansing is the cornerstone of skincare,” Petroni says. “Use a cleanser with active ingredients and take time massaging it in, to kick-start your routine and piggyback the performance of other products.”
